Where is Griffis Sculpture Park?
Griffis Sculpture Park is located at 6902 Mill Valley Rd. in East Otto, NY.
AKA: it’s in the complete middle of nowhere.
You will enjoy a nice scenic drive to get there, but also be aware that there are no restrooms or gas stations in the nearby vicinity, and you will spend some quality time with the winding back country roads.
Are there bathrooms at Griffis Sculpture Park?
There are no actual bathrooms at the park. However, they do have several porta potties located near the parking lot, just before the park entrance. These are the only available bathrooms at Griffis Sculpture Park.
Are there water fountains at Griffis Sculpture Park?
No, there are no water fountains. There is a small gift shop, but they did not have any beverages for sale.
Be sure to pack a lot of water, as there are no nearby convenience stores either, and you will get thirsty.
Are there picnic tables at Griffis Sculpture Park?
Yes, there are a couple of picnic tables in the parking lot, and there are a few inside the park grounds.
It is a “pack-in, pack-out” park. Meaning there are no trashcans, and you have to pack out whatever trash you bring in with you.
Do you have to pay to visit Griffis Sculpture Park?
Yes, there is a $5 per person fee for adults.
It is $3 for children and seniors.
Can you climb on the sculptures at Griffis Sculpture Park?
Yes, you can climb on some of the sculptures throughout the park. You’ll notice ladders built into some of them for climbing.
Do you have to hike uphill?
The sculptures are spread out throughout the park. There are some that are very easily accessible, some along the trails in the woods, and some at the top of the hill. The most famous “castle” sculpture (pictured above) is situated at the top of the hill.
That being said, we climbed up a rugged trail through the woods, only to be met by families with small children, strollers, and even an expectant mother at the top! And they even managed to beat us back to the parking lot, even though we left before they did!
So there are multiple trails, some easier than others (clearly we took the wrong one!).
Are the trails muddy?
Yes! Especially in the woods, there are definitely sections of the trails that are muddy. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
How many sculptures are at Griffis Sculpture Park?
So many!! The park features over 250 sculptures. Everywhere you look there are more.
Are there nude sculptures at Griffis Sculpture Park?
Yes, there are many nude figures throughout the park. But there is also a great variety of other sculptures to be seen.
How long do you need to spend at Griffis Sculpture Park?
You could literally spend hours here, walking along every little rabbit trail to see every sculpture.
We were here on a hot July day, so we did not want to spend extra time wandering off in every direction.
We spent about an hour here, climbing up to the top, and then back down. But you could easily spend longer (or shorter!), depending on how much you want to see and how far you want to walk.
Is Griffis Sculpture Park open all year?
The park is officially open May 1- Oct. 31. However, if the weather is nice, it may be open earlier or later.
The park is open from sunrise to sunset.
Other things to note:
Griffis Sculpture Park has an additional location with more sculptures located at Rohr Hill Rd. Ashford Hollow, NY.
These sculptures are located in a field just off the road, and are accessible all year round.
They do host special events here throughout the season
(visit their website for more information).
