When I first saw the Luke’s coffee mug incense burner (with coffee bean shaped wax melts!) on Instagram, I knew I had to get one! The problem is, the wax burner is only sold from the UK based store Ajouter, and their reviews are… less than stellar.

Well, after a year of contemplating (or at least, it was a year after I first saw it), I decided I simply must order one, for the sake of letting my readers know if it was worth it (it’s all for the cause)!

Is it worth it? Did the product actually show up (spoiler: yes… eventually)? Is the company legit? It’s honestly hard to tell from the reviews. So here is my full, honest, completely personal review of the Luke’s coffee mug incense burner (and wax melt) from Ajouter.

Where to Order a Luke’s Mug Incense Burner

I have found the same Luke’s coffee mug incense burner available from two places. Officially, you can order one from the Ajouter store. I have also sometimes seen this same item available on Etsy. It is not always available in either place, so check to see what’s available to order, and keep checking to see when it becomes available again if it’s not currently listed.

I am not sure if the Etsy shop is connected with Ajouter, but it is definitely their product they are selling (as the wax melts in the customer’s photo have the Ajouter name on them), and they are both based in Glasgow. I ordered my wax burner directly from the Ajouter website.

• Good to Know: I have read reviews on both sites that the order takes several months to come (and in some cases that it never arrived). The negative reviews were why I waited so long to order one for myself. You can read more about my personal order experience below.

What’s Included with the Incense Burner

The incense burner and the coffee bean wax melts are sold separately, although you can order them together.

If you order a Luke’s coffee mug incense burner, it will include:

• The “Luke’s” coffee mug
• A little dish that sits on top for the wax melts
• A lid you can use with an incense cone

The coffee bean shaped wax melts are sold separately. You can order them in different flavors, depending on what’s available at the time you order. I ordered the pumpkin pancakes scented wax melts.

You can also include scented incense cones in your order, but since you can easily find these anywhere, I wouldn’t bother ordering any from Ajouter. I ordered this winter scented variety pack for my little gingerbread cottage incense burner, and they’re great.

I do think you should order the coffee bean shaped wax melts though, as these are special and really add to the vibe. But you can also find fun coffee scented wax melts on Amazon, and even fun flavors like caramel macchiato, which I am excited to try!

How Long Did it Take to be Delivered?

A big thing with ordering from Ajouter was the many negative reviews that said their order never arrived, or it took moooonths to get their order. People also complained a lot about having a hard time contacting customer service regarding their orders.

Here is my experience:

Placing my Order

My order took 2 months to ship. I placed my order on September 5th. I wanted to order it earlier, but it was only available for pre-order in August (I mention this to point out that it was listed as “available,” not “pre-order” when I ordered it in September).

After I ordered, I got a confirmation email, which said I would receive another email when it shipped. It gave an estimate of 5-7 shipping days once it shipped, but no mention of how long it should take to actually ship (given the fact that they were available on the website to order, one would think not that long…).

Contacting Customer Service

On September 30th, I emailed them. Just to check in and say “heeey, any idea when this might ship?” They responded a few days later to say they were just firing them in the kiln, and they expected to ship within the week.

Not gonna lie, I find this all a bit sketch… They were just making them three weeks after I ordered them? But I could switch to a different wax melt burner? I feel like, if you don’t have the product, then don’t offer it. But maybe that’s just me…

Anyway, I patiently waited another two weeks before sending a second inquiry. And they said so sorry, there were shipping delays, you can switch to the Stars Hollow wax melt if you need it urgently! To which I may have responded (a bit childishly…) that I didn’t want the Stars Hollow wax melt, I wanted the one I ordered. The one that said it was in stock when I ordered it!

They never responded to that…

This was October 15th.

Following Up

At this point, the Luke’s incense burners were no longer listed as available on the website. But I kept watching for them! On October 28th, I emailed them again, to say “heeeey, I can see this item is back in stock on your website. Just checking when the one I ordered Sep. 5th will be shipping?”

And finally, finally, on November 3rd, they responded that I was “in the queue” to ship, and I would receive a shipping confirmation shortly. Which I did later that day.

Aaaaand… two and a half months later, I finally received my Gilmore Girls incense burner on November 13th. Yay!

Final Thoughts

If you plan to order a Luke’s coffee mug incense burner, be patient (if you are in the UK, where these ship from, you might get yours faster). It is going to take time, but you will eventually get your order.

Make sure to keep track of your order. Save your confirmation email and date of order, and check in periodically.

I wonder if I would still be waiting on my item, if I hadn’t contacted them…? Either way, make sure you remember that you did in fact spend a decent amount of money on a somewhat frivolous item at some point in the recentish past, and if it seems like it’s been an unreasonable amount of time, definitely check in with them via email.

Is the Luke’s Mug Incense Burner Worth It?

Ok, now we get to the fun part: actually using my Luke’s wax melt burner! The Luke’s coffee mug can be used two different ways:

• As a wax melt, with a tealight underneath
• As an incense burner, with an incense cone

Luke’s Coffee Mug Wax Burner

My favorite thing, by far, was to use this as a wax burner, with the little coffee bean wax melts. Just place a tealight inside the mug, and put some wax melts in the little dish that sits on top.

The coffee beans melted quickly, and it really did look like a cup of coffee! I had the pumpkin pancake and cinnamon scented ones, which smelled decent. It wasn’t an amazing scent, but the coffee bean shape was cool.

I am excited to try it with some of these coffee scented wax melts too!

A fun bonus is that not only does it melt the scented coffee beans and leave the room smelling cozy, it does also let off smoke if you use it this way. So it really does look like a steaming cup of coffee, which is just so darn cute. Absolutely worth the wait.

Luke’s Coffee Mug Incense Burner

The other way you can use this is as an incense burner. You place an incense cone in the bottom of the cup and light it, then place the lid on top. The lid has several holes in it for the smoke to come up through.

You will get a lot more “steam” this way than if you are just burning the wax melt in the dish. But I don’t think it looks as cool, because you don’t get to see the melted coffee. I also prefer the way wax melts smell vs. how incense cones smell, so I definitely liked the wax burner method better, but that is really just personal preference.

Either way, it was definitely cool, and worked just as advertised!

The Final Verdict

The Luke’s mug incense burner and wax melt is absolutely just as cool as it looks. It is a fun way to fill your home with cozy scents, especially since you can use any wax melt or incense cone that you want.

However, the company is very slow with shipping, and seem to continually delay shipments for suspicious reasons. If you order one, make sure to keep track of it, and stay in touch with the company until you get your order!

But it will be worth it in the end!
